Last week, NetRefer attended the Amsterdam Affiliate Conference, which was held between the 23rd and 26th  June at the ‘Amsterdam RAI’.

This year more than 3,500 participants attended the expo with four conferences taking place at the same time.. The Financial Partners Expo, iGaming Executive Conference, Payment Solutions Conference and Amsterdam Affiliate Conference. In general the expo featured over 100 stands including affiliate programs, software providers, financial betting, media and other B2B companies.

Chief Operating Officer Timothy Buttigieg and Business Development Manager James Camilleri represented NetRefer whereby they met a number of existing clients. This was a good opportunity to maintain a strong working relationship with such clients. A lot of information was exchanged which will be used by NetRefer in its continuous effort in providing an excellent service to its clients.

Today marks the start of the ‘Barcelona Affiliate Conference’ (BAC) expo in Barcelona, Spain. This year’s event is being held at the ‘Barcelona International Convention Center’ (CCIB).

This year’s discussions revolved around topics such as: influence of the regulation of slots on the Spanish market, SEO, education strategies in the financial world, Google’s new penalties under the new penguin and panda updates, future of affiliate tools, the change from affiliate to broker, Forex, UK and Spanish Legislations, case studies, growing your business, and many other topics!

Today marks the last day of the ‘Excellence in iGaming’ (EiG) expo in Berlin, Germany. This year’s event was held at the ‘Arena Berlin’.

The event’s venue was organized in the following areas:

  • The Pitch – this gave visitors a series of power-pitches which took approx. 15 minutes each and which were delivered by innovators and visionaries who presented their products and innovators to the crowd.
  • Start-Up Launchpad – this gave visitors the chance to experience some of the newest and brightest start-ups this year.
  • Start-Up Village – this gave visitors the ability to learn more about various new start-ups and how to start a business in this industry.
  • Meeting Zone – this area gave visitors the ability to meet other visitors, businesses, start-ups, innovators, speakers, thinkers, visionaries and other key individuals to network and build business relationships.
  • Product Premieres – this gave visitors a chance to explore new innovations and technologies, by offering the possibility to see first-hand what is new in the industry and which businesses will be in on the money in the near future.

This year’s discussions revolved around topics such as: how new technologies will impact digital gaming, technological disruption, creating immersive virtual experiences, planning for the future, what value new trends & investments will bring to businesses all over, crowdfunding a business, offshore jurisdictions, key developments from around the World, various case-studies, updates in online-gaming regulations, mobile solutions and mobile experience, tax implications in Germany, gaming and regulation in Israel, regulatory progress in the Netherlands and many other topics!

On Tuesday 13th May, our very own Johan Zammit presented at Affiliate Management Days, London. The topic : Should merchants work with affiliate networks or with in-house affiliate platforms such as NetRefer?

Johan promoted the fact that as long as it is financially feasible, merchants should do both – have an in-house affiliate program as well as work with as many networks as possible.

In-house affiliate programs are becoming more popular with time. The fact that both Apple and Groupon now have an in-house affiliate program since August 2013 sent shockwaves in the performance marketing industry. Same as the emergence of companies like NetRefer in 2005, Cake in 2007, Impact Radius in 2008, HasOffers in 2009 and PHG in 2010 which all provide the technology and platforms that enable merchants to have their own in-house affiliate program.

Good affiliate networks such as Commission Juntion, Tradeboubler, Affiliate Window  (Zanox), Linkshare and Affilinet all provide a super framework that acts as a trusted middleman between thousands of affiliates and thousands of merchants. Such source of affiliate traffic cannot be ignored.

On the other hand an in-house affiliate program enables you to have a direct relationship with your affiliates, especially your top affiliates. 5% of the affiliates refer 95% of the revenue so it is critical to put your top affiliates in your in-house affiliate program and give them all the direct attention they need to ensure their business. An in-house affiliate program also enables you to have more control and more freedom on your campaigns, your T&Cs and your rewards to affiliates. It also enables you to have a better integration to your business systems – thus you can offer more granular rewards to affiliates.

Johan explained that the technologies and functionality to do this dual approach exists in tag management, pixel tracking, S2S callback URL and data export APIs. These enable shared real-time tracking for both the networks and the in-house affiliate platform.

To capture good traffic from as many affiliates as possible doing it just in-house or just with a network is not enough. A dual approach is required.

Affiliate Management Days organised by Geno Prussakov, now in its sixth edition, is a conference that discusses the latest hot topics in the performance marketing industry. The hot topics of this last conference were multi-channel (omni-channel), attribution, post-click analysis, retargeting, mobile and of course in-house affiliate programs. The next AM Days will be in San Francisco in the 31st March and 1st April 2015.


ICE & LAC 2014

As is traditional in the annual iGaming Calendar, the first week of February 2014 will see the two largest events in the online gaming space descend on London – namely ICE totally Gaming and London Affiliate Conference.

ICE 2014 will be the largest conference in gaming – with over 60,000 delegates attending in 2013, no other gaming expo comes anywhere close in sheer size and volume. This makes it an essential must attend event for anyone connected or interested in iGaming.

Once this conference is concluded, a significant number of IGaming exhibitors will move to the Old Billingsgate where the annual London Affiliate Conference will be held.

ICE and LAC are great opportunities for our team to obtain feedback from both our new and existing clients, together with all the affiliates utilizing NetRefer platform and constantly giving us valuable feedback, which in turn allows the team to further improve and develop the product.
